Freesia flowers are symbolic of innocence and are very popular for bridal bouquets and wedding flowers. These beautiful blooms have an amazing flower scent that is sweet and spicey! Freesia also comes in many vibrant colors. This blooming beauty captures your heart and is a springtime favorite.
Freesia is our absolute most favorite flower to preserve! The blooms press beautifully and they also keep their color well. If you are having your bridal bouquet preserved or other wedding flowers preserved, we highly recommend having Freesia in your flower arrangements.
Roses, roses, and more roses.
Yellow roses make a bright and cheerful bridal bouquet.
Roses are the most common flower used in bridal bouquets and wedding flower arrangements. They sometimes stand alone, but often times roses are incorporated with other flowers to add style and variety to any wedding day celebration. Roses of all sizes and colors can be used in bridal bouquets, flower girl baskets, centerpieces, or as boutonniere and corsages. Roses have a long shelf life, especially if refrigerated and kept in water with freshly cut stems. Most roses don't bruise very easily, so wear and tear of the wedding day events won't leave them brown. Rose stems are strong and will not wilt easily even if your bridal bouquet is left out of water for a long time.
Some roses keep their vibrant color better than others. We find that yellow roses, red roses, and orange roses stay very close to their true color when the petals are pressed and dried. Peach rose petals pressed and dried turn a lighter creamy peach.
Red roses in a bridal bouquet are a classic! Beautiful roses are romantic and elegant for any wedding flowers.
Peach and orange roses in a wedding bouquet add a warm touch to any wedding.
Rose colors that we find change the most in the drying and pressing process are lavender and light pink roses. They do not hold their color very well. Lavender roses turn a very light tanish lavender, sometimes losing all of the hints of purple depending on the shade of purple. Light pink roses change to a creamy off white with a hint of a victorian or champagne pink color. One solution to the color change is to use the original rose colors in the background of the painting to represent the wedding bouquet colors.
Lavender rose bouquet creates a feeling of early spring.
Pink roses add a feminine touch to any bridal bouquet.
Elegant Calla Lilies
Calla Lilies make a sophisticated and elegant statement. White calla are very popular for weddings, but there are many colors and types to choose from.
The yellow/orange 'mango' calla is a very popular choice. Also, bright yellow calla, such as 'golden star', are very vibrant and pretty.
You could even use many different colored calla lilies for your wedding flower arrangements or bridal bouquets to make a bold impression on your wedding guests. Calla lilies also hold up very well out of water for a while, so using them for the bridal bouquet as well as the bridesmaids bouquets is not only beautiful, but smart! Talk to your wedding florist and get their expert opinion on the best choice for you.
If you choose to use calla lilies, and you plan on having your bridal bouquet preserved or your other wedding flowers preserved, we highly recommend using the mini calla lilies for best results with our flower preservation technique. The large calla lilies tend to spot easily as well as brown on the tips. The colors do darken in the drying process especially the eggplant calas. They deep purple before drying and they turn a darker purple that is almost black. The mango cala turns darker as well yielding a purple and rusty yellow orange. Pink calas turn light purple. The yellow and white cala lilies keep their true color best.
The popular and vibrant gerber daisy bridal bouquet
Gerber daisies come in a wide variety of colors, and are available all year round. They add a strong pop of color to any bridal bouquet or other wedding flower arrangements. With their classic flower shape, they are a favorite of many brides, and create a nice rounded bridal bouquet.
If you plan on having your wedding flowers preserved, we love to work with Gerber daisies! The only colors that are a challenge are the pale varieties, such as white, light yellow or pink. The darker shades, such as red, magenta, dark orange and dark yellow keep their color well during our flower preservation technique.
If you are doing your flowers yourself and choose to use gerber daisies, you will need to use a wire to support the stems. Otherwise, they will droop and look terrible. To learn how to do this, click on the daisy!
Classic tulip bouquet
Tulips are a classic wedding favorite, and with over 500 varieties available, you will have plenty of choices! Springtime is the traditional time to expect these flowers, but many commercial growers make these flowers available to florists year round. Tulips are often used alone for bridal bouquets because of their delicate simplicity. And they also work well incorporated into a bridal bouquet of many flowers and textures.
If you are having your bridal bouquet preserved, tulips are a great choice. They do work well with our flower preservation technique, however, they have delicate petals that are thin and tone down in color when dried and pressed. They are also a bit transparent after the preservation process. We recommend going with a lighter colored background for your painting so that your tulips are complimented well.
Dramatic dendrobium orchids make a flowing bridal bouquet.
The White Dendrobium Orchid is the second-largest class of orchids. It grows with several sweetly scented blooms per stem. This true white Orchid would be a captivating addition to any wedding bouquet, table centerpiece or flower arrangement. We have seen them in bridal bouquets as well as wedding flower arrangements and wedding centerpieces. They add height to any flower display and last a long time. The stems are hearty and won't droop after a short period of time. The dendrobium orchid also comes in many colors. Aside from white, another popular color that we have seen in bridal bouquets, is the magenta and white bloom. This type is very common in leis for tropical or beach weddings.
If you are planning to have your bridal bouquet preserved, or other wedding flowers preserved, dendrobium orchids are one of our favorites to work with! They stay fresh for a long time and also travel well if you will be shipping your flowers to us.
Beautiful Lily bridesmaids bouquets
Asiatic Lilies are a very common lily for bridal bouquets. Brides love the Asiatic lilies because they are smaller and more economical than oriental lilies. They are sometimes called a Tiger Lily because they come in such bright orange colors. They also come in pinks, yellows, whites, and other colored hybrids.
Oriental Lilies are larger hybrids such as Stargazers, Starfighters and Casa Blancas. They are all exquisite and make a lovely bridal flower designs.
If you use lilies in your bridal bouquet, make sure that you remove the stamen so that you don't end up full of pollen!
If you are having your bridal bouquet preserved or other wedding flowers preserved, asiatic lilies and oriental lilies are wonderful. The brighter orange and yellow blooms keep their color well. The pink stargazers darken to a deep purple. Light pink and light yellow lilies do tone down in color during the drying process. The casablanca lilies brown easily and many times the tips of the petals curl under, preventing them from pressing smoothly.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DURING THE DRYING PROCESS, ALL FLOWERS CHANGE IN SOME WAY. When flowers are pressed at peak freshness, the results are at their best. While many flowers keep true to color, some flowers may lose some or all of their color. This is a natural effect when the water is taken out of the petals. Results also depend on the quality and condition of the flowers upon arrival.
We have found that orchids have the most dramatic change in color. All types of cymbidium orchids turn golden brown, but they can still be used in our process. Results vary in other types of orchids.
If you have questions about specific flowers and color, please send us an email or call and we will be happy to discuss it with you.
